Women Unveiled – A Project in Portraiture

What is it?

It’s a personal portraiture project that explores what it means to be a woman – away from the male gaze; away from being Mum; after trauma; after grieving; after motherhood.

When it’s all stripped back – what’s left?

The subject of the image is nude or exposed but modest – vulnerable. This is where the magic happens, this is where we connect and create something beautiful. The portrait session becomes thought-provoking and almost healing for the woman involved.

 

What is it for?

I feel very honoured that women are reaching out to be involved in this project. They are sharing their story, sharing tears and allowing me to interpret their journey through portrait photography.

The end goal is a collection of raw, avant-guard portraits representing women in different stages of life and their personal experiences and trauma.

These images will be used in exhibition, competitions and potentially publication.

But more than just portraits… This project has brought women together in difficult times. We always work so hard for everyone else, it’s easy to put ourselves at the bottom of the heap and although these sessions aren’t ‘uplifting’ intentionally, the women involved so far have felt a huge relief from the sessions. The change throughout the portrait shoot is remarkable. Women seem to bloom and flourish before my eyes and leave with a glow that wasn’t visible before.

 

Who can be involved?

Any woman, any age, any experience, any size.

I ask for a payment of £150 to cover the cost of my time and resources but this will include a stunning fine-art print of your selected portrait as well as the digital file to share, print and keep.

However, if this is a cost you cannot possibly afford but this project resonates with you and you’d really love to be involved, please enquire and let me know. Price shouldn’t be a barrier to healing but I must also protect myself through this process.
