Newborn Portrait Sessions
Leading Newborn and Baby Photographer based in Sandbach, Cheshire – Northwest UK.

Having a baby is one of the most important, life changing moments that can happen to you. It’s a new chapter of your family’s story unfolding. My newborn sessions are about celebrating that precious moment in all its wonder through the art of photography, in a way that feels calm, thoughtful and deeply personal.
In my cosy home studio in Sandbach, I specialise in creating stunning, artful images that highlight your baby’s natural beauty and the love unique to your family. Every session is approached with intention, from the colours and textures I choose to the way I gently guide family portraits, allowing space for real connection and natural moments to unfold. Your photographs will be the centre of attention in your home, a real talking point, and they will be passed down from generation to generation.
My work goes beyond photography. I’m a total perfectionist and I strive to craft a striking collection of images bespoke to your family, while also capturing the small details that make this time so fleeting. My creativity, use of colour and texture, and most important of all, the care I take with your baby are what sets me apart from other newborn photographers. Every image is created with purpose, balancing artistry with calm, so that nothing feels forced or rushed. I love nothing more than creating something no one has ever seen before, and I can’t wait to tell your family’s story through my art.

What this means for you
When you choose Little Primrose Photography, you’re investing in an experience that guarantees:
- A safe, comfortable environment for your newborn.
- A session tailored to your family’s unique story.
- Expert advice at every step – from your photoshoot to your gallery viewing.
- Timeless, beautifully crafted images and products that will become cherished family heirlooms.

When should I book my Newborn Session:
Most families book their newborn session during pregnancy, usually after their 20 week scan. A £100 deposit secures your place and is deducted from your session fee.
I also understand that babies rarely arrive to plan. For this reason, I limit the number of newborn sessions I take each month, which often allows me to accommodate last minute enquiries. If your baby has already arrived or plans have changed, please do get in touch and I’ll always do my best to help.
What age is best for a newborn session?
My ideal time to photograph newborns is around three weeks old. By this stage, feeding is usually well established, while babies still retain that beautiful curled, scrunchy newborn feel. That said, every baby is different, and I happily photograph babies at any age. Sessions with older newborns and young babies up to around twelve weeks are absolutely possible and can be just as meaningful, simply with a more relaxed, baby led approach.
How long will my Newborn Session take?
If you’ve decided to go for my Heirloom Newborn Session, it will usually take between 2-3 hours because we allow time for baby to be settled and comfortable. I completely understand that new Mums and Dads are keen to return to the comfort of their routine and I try to gather images for a complete collection as quickly as possible but you should come to the shoot with the mindset that it will take as long as it takes dependant on how baby is that day.
If you are looking for a shorter shoot and are happy to prioritise specific images or setups instead of going for the ‘complete experience’ then check out my Signature Newborn Session as this is a more focussed shoot which takes 1.5hours maximum.
“We booked a newborn shoot with Lisa before baby was here, we came across her work and fell in love. Lisa was amazing with Teddy even if he was being a little mardy 🤣. Lisa was also great with our teenagers and even managed to get photos of me that I love ❤️ The studio was so relaxed the shoot was not at all rushed and the photos were amazing. There was no sales push, not that it was needed as the photos speak for themselves. The quality of the album is amazing such a show piece. Thanks so much Lisa, helping us capture those early moments.”
“Highly recommend!. Having searched for a photographer to capture special images of our newborn baby, we found Lisa to be approachable, helpful and extremely professional. The shoot was an enjoyable experience because of Lisa’s obvious experience dealing with newborns, we were able to just look on and enjoy watching her work with our baby. Lisa was able to produce exactly what we wanted with a shoot completely personal to us. The images we have received are even more beautiful than we expected, a wonderful experience and one I would recommend to anyone looking for a talented photographer.”
Session Options
When you invest in a newborn session with me, it’s more than just a photoshoot. It’s a bespoke experience from beginning to end and I will guide you through the whole process. I take a £100 deposit to secure your due date or session date if baby is already born, and this comes off your package price.
I offer two different sessions: Heirloom or Signature – both of these packages will allow plenty of time with me in my studio to create a fantastic gallery of images and both of these sessions include a selection of digital images in with the price. I know how important it is for you to really ‘own’ your images and that is why I like to include digitals alongside the session.

What happens after my shoot?
After your shoot I’ll often edit a little sneak peek so you can share it early with your friends and family so you can all get excited to see the whole gallery! This is usually on the same day as your shoot.
Once I’ve finished editing your images, I love to invite you to return to my studio so I can present your gallery in a stunning showcase slideshow. This is the time where we will choose which images you’d like to have as part of your package and it’s also a great opportunity to chat about wall art, albums and framing. I have some stunning examples from the best professional print supplier in the UK and I’d be happy to arrange printing your images for you.
It’s best to have a look around your home in advance and think about how you’d like to display your images whether it’s in an album to be shared and passed down; wall art and frames to decorate your home; or just digital images to share and print yourself. I’ll help you create a bespoke collection of products that feels perfect for your family.
Frequently Asked Questions – Newborn
What if my baby has already been born?
If your baby has already been born and you feel like you have missed the newborn stage but would still like similar photographs taken of your baby then please get in touch. I have photographed many older babies and this is usually not a problem at all, it just means you might have more awake photos! Sometimes mums prefer to wait a little while until they are more settled in with a new baby before getting photographs taken. I have taken beautiful photographs of babies in a newborn style up to 10 weeks old!
If your baby is older than 10 weeks old then a Milestone session is for you - it's slightly cheaper than a newborn shoot because we will focus on stunning awake, smiling photos instead of trying to wrap them up etc. Check out my Milestone and Birthday Session Info for more details.
What if my baby won’t settle?
I am a baby-led photographer which means that if baby is awake, we will take some gorgeous awake shots and capture that fantastic eye contact of a nosy baby. When they want to sleep I will allow them to be completely comfortable and relax into natural poses. If in the very rare circumstances baby is ill or completely unsettled then it would be entirely possible to reschedule for a date in the near future when baby will be more at ease but this has happened very rarely in the last 10 years!
What poses and props should we expect?
I am a self-confessed prop addict. I just can’t stop buying gorgeous little outfits, bonnets and headbands! I’m also always on the lookout for larger antique or bespoke pieces to make your shoot unique. I have an artistic eye for which colours and pieces go together to make striking, creative photographs so rest assured your gallery will be one-of-a-kind!
Some parents express concern about posing and wrapping and the possibility of baby being uncomfortable. May I take this time to reassure you that I never pose baby or place them in props when they are not at their most comfortable. This means that I only move baby into poses that they naturally go into themselves and I only do this when they are content and safe. I pride myself on this natural style of newborn photography which shows off your baby in a beautiful, relaxed positions, artistically posed and decorated with bespoke accessories and props. I think it’s important to also focus on your baby’s tiny details such as lips, hands, eyelashes and toes so you should expect some macro shots too.
When I photograph your baby with you and your family, the photos will mostly be relaxed in style and I will gently guide you into the most flattering poses. You will have some photos looking at baby, some with your eyes closed cuddling them tight then one or two classic portraits looking at my camera and smiling - the grandparents will go nuts for these!
What will my baby wear?
I have a cute collection of outfits and wraps in a range of colours that baby will wear. If you’d like naked photos to show baby at their most pure and innocent then I will be happy to oblige. Your baby is usually the most comfortable when swaddled so for a lot of the session baby will be wrapped up and we will gently unveil them as we go.
If you have something specific you'd like your baby to wear during the shoot, please bring it along and I would be happy to use it but I'm sure you'll be pleased when you see my vast selection.
What should I wear?
My studio will be very warm, please make sure you wear cool, loose fitting clothing. My Heirloom Newborn Sessions include parent shots and a full family portrait so bear this in mind when selecting your own clothes. Keep it neutral and timeless – avoid logos and strong patterns that could age.
I have an item or outfit with sentimental value, will you be able to use it?
Of course! Anything with sentimental value like an heirloom, a hand-knitted blanket/bonnet, a cuddly toy or some religious items are more than welcome in your shoot! They are what make it so unique! I've even been known to photograph an entire Star Wars collection...
We would love to book but simply can't afford to, do you offer discounts?
To keep it fair to all customers, I catagorically never offer discounts. However, I can offer flexible payment plans on my newborn sessions including Klarna. I'd be more than happy to set something up for you to allow you to spread payments over time. This can also be setup for wall art and album orders once you've seen your images.
If you want a smaller shoot that would be much more affordable, add yourself to my mailing list as I offer mini session days throughout the year and these are a great opportunity to grab some images at a cheaper rate.
